Et puis l\u00e0 tu sombres. Tu te d\u00e9testes. Tout ce qui t\u2019entoure te r\u00e9pugne comme un bonze dans un Mc Do. Je trouve la marche trop lente, les trottinettes ridicules et les voitures immondes. Je me r\u00e9tracte comme un gast\u00e9ropode pour ne pas toucher les horreurs qui m\u2019entourent, imam dans une charcuterie.\u00a0 Et puis je sombre, \u00e9puis\u00e9 par mon propre style. Hygi\u00e8ne de vie plus centriste qu\u2019un paquet de chipster, extr\u00eamement vigilant quant \u00e0 mes choix, sous le regard aust\u00e8re des <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grrrndzero.fr\/index.php\/gz-bohlen\/rejoindre-grrrnd-zero\" target=\"_blank\">puristes<\/a>, lorgnant vers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leblogfinance.com\/files\/2012\/07\/cac-130112.png\" target=\"_blank\">le grand mal<\/a>. Le truc le plus dub que t\u2019\u00e9coutes c\u2019est Haxan Cloak. Asocial \u00e0 la recherche de likes comme un roumain \u00e0 son feu rouge, m\u00e9fiant de tes propres envies, auto-suspicion \u00e0 chaque source de plaisir trop \u00e9vidente, tu sanglotes mais ne laisses rien transparaitre. Et l\u00e0 je vais te parler de quoi\u00a0petit schizophr\u00e8ne ? D\u2019un truc facile \u00e0 boire et d\u2019un groupe de modasses\u00a0? La haine de soi est tellement d\u00e9licieuse.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Habile introduction pour me d\u00e9culpabiliser de parler d\u2019un groupe aussi hype et d\u2019un domaine au top m\u00e9diatique, le tout sans m\u00eame prendre le soin d\u2019ouvrir une adresse darkmail. Mais j\u2019ai la conscience <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MiZL1nWZDu8\" target=\"_blank\">zen<\/a> et l\u2019envie de croquer la vie. Il y a d\u00e9j\u00e0 2 ans j\u2019avais visit\u00e9 le domaine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jurancon-cauhape.com\/venir-au-domaine\/venir-au-domaine-cauhape.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cauhap\u00e9<\/a>, un apr\u00e8s-midi d\u2019aout tout en lourdeur. Au c\u0153ur du Juran\u00e7on, une appellation qu\u2019on a un peu de mal \u00e0 situer (non ce n\u2019est ni dans le Jura ski de fond ni dans le Jura whisky, mais dans le B\u00e9arn), \u00e9tendue entre montagnes et oc\u00e9an, paysage de contrefort des Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es o\u00f9 les vignes s\u2019int\u00e8grent dans des valons entre for\u00eats, ma\u00efs et \u00e9levage bovins. Un vrai terroir de la France avec grandes b\u00e2tisses blanches et cours pav\u00e9es, calme et s\u00e9duction d\u2019une r\u00e9gion gourmande (canards et compagnie sont aussi de la partie) dont la fausse tranquillit\u00e9 peut subir les assauts venus des cimes. Visite donc de Cauhap\u00e9, tr\u00e8s tendance, vignoble au cordeau, accueil impeccable, pro, agencement sans aucune faute de go\u00fbt. Les vins sont tout aussi ma\u00eetris\u00e9s. Je suis particuli\u00e8rement attendri par les secs : nez percutant, plein d\u2019exotisme, baroque tranchant avec une bouche vivace, un poil anguleuse et pleine de tonus. J&rsquo;ai pendant un bon moment cherch\u00e9 avec quel groupe associer ce surprenant tr\u00e9sor du sud-ouest, plein de maitrise et de finesse. Avec tout le rock qui t\u00e2che que j\u2019\u00e9coute, j\u2019avais forc\u00e9ment du mal \u00e0 associer ce domaine net et sans bavure. Jusqu\u2019au jour o\u00f9 je croise les Savages en live et en coulisses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/wineandnoise.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_0694-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0694\" width=\"940\" height=\"940\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Souci du d\u00e9tail,<br \/>\nobsession du contr\u00f4le<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans le domaine par une entr\u00e9e grandiloquente un peu chelou et on palpe direct un suivi des plus strict de tout le processus\u00a0: de la vigne aux cuves, en passant par la mise en bouteille soign\u00e9e. Henri Ramonteu ne le cache pas \u00ab\u00a0<i>la main de l\u2019homme est omnipr\u00e9sente dans les vignes, les d\u00e9tails font la perfection<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb. Soucis du d\u00e9tail, obsession du contr\u00f4le\u00a0: d\u00e8s le premier morceau, Savages plante un d\u00e9cor sans concession, rigoriste et maitris\u00e9. Section basse-batterie athl\u00e9tique (on me dit que la batteuse vient de la drum&amp;bass- ah ouais carr\u00e9ment), guitare laissant planer une dangereuse tension et un chant assum\u00e9 par <a href=\"http:\/\/jehnnybeth.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jehnny Beth<\/a> look\u00e9e jusqu\u2019au bout des ongles, captivante dans sa rage pleine de gr\u00e2ce (ou l\u2019inverse) et son imposante fragilit\u00e9. Extr\u00eame pr\u00e9cision dans le jeu, le placement et l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation. Punks \u00e0 talons plus qu\u2019\u00e0 chien, elles orchestrent un pogo noir pour danseuses \u00e9toiles, filantes contre la mort et la finitude. Cet \u00e9quilibre tendu entre la rondeur des rythmiques (oui oui quelques grosses reverb sur la caisse claire, en toute impunit\u00e9) et la froide furie du chant\/guitare est tout aussi fascinante que le contraste nez\/bouche dans le Geyser du Juran\u00e7on. Et largement aussi percutant. Puis s\u2019installe doucement une \u0153uvre persistante, une violente n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de saisir et d\u2019afficher un d\u00e9sir indestructible, peu importe son objet pourvu que la pouss\u00e9e porte loin \u2013 c\u2019est ici je crois l\u2019essence de la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence post-punk. Dire \u00ab non, rien de rien, je n\u2019abandonne rien\u00a0\u00bb. Et les 4 filles sur sc\u00e8ne ne l\u00e2chent absolument rien.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>De la diff\u00e9rence<br \/>\nentre nuance et patchwork <\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les vignes de Cauhap\u00e9 b\u00e9n\u00e9ficient d\u2019un climat et terroir soumis \u00e0 de multiples influences\u00a0: douceurs oc\u00e9aniques et rigueurs montagnardes, arri\u00e8re-saison douce, hiver piquant, pi\u00e9monts g\u00e9n\u00e9rant une multitude d\u2019expositions et d\u2019altitude. Ramonteau poursuit en toute logique ce travail d\u2019assemblage en utilisant les c\u00e9pages du cru, balan\u00e7ant les caract\u00e9ristiques propres des deux maseng (petit: aromatique et nerveux; gros: \u00e9videmment plus ample et gourmand) et r\u00e9habilitant quelques vieilleries locales (les impayables courbu, camaralet et lauzet). Assembler les nuances, rechercher une palette aromatique et exprimer sans trop forcer, conserver un style particulier li\u00e9 au terroir. Subtile diff\u00e9rence entre nuance et patchwork qui implique de savoir o\u00f9 s\u2019arr\u00eater. Savages recherche \u00ab\u00a0 <i>une musique live avec suffisamment de nuances pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer une gamme d\u2019\u00e9motions<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb. Et savoir o\u00f9 s\u2019arr\u00eater dans l\u2019utilisation des r\u00e9f\u00e9rences (le c\u00e9r\u00e9moniel exp\u00e9rimental des Siouxie and the banshees), des gimmicks (un poil de crissement indus, quelques break cold), des ficelles (du revival Joy Division \u00e0 la mention subtile des groupes en \u00ab\u00a0Black\u2026\u00a0\u00bb) est encore une preuve de maitrise et de d\u00e9termination. Transformer les constats de faiblesse en force de dire, comme si dire suffisait pour vivre, assumer sans avoir le choix, ressusciter des d\u00e9tails qui font sens au-del\u00e0 du \u00ab\u00a0revival 80\u00a0\u00bb\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pour aller tout droit encore faut-il avoir un r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Car le constat, \u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s contemporain (crise \u00e9conomique) et intemporel (crise sentimentale), ressuscite les d\u00e9tails qui comptent\u00a0: l\u2019urgence, le combat, le style. Nous autres emp\u00eatr\u00e9s dans les statistiques descriptives et notre lourd devoir d\u2019\u00eatre libres, cherchant \u00e0 \u00e9merger quelque part entre fatalisme et fuite imaginaire, retrouvons ici une invitation \u00e0 relever la f\u00eate. \u00a0\u00ab\u00a0<i>Il est plus difficile de s\u00e9duire que d\u2019impressionner\u00a0<\/i>\u00bb aime rappeler Ramonteu, se d\u00e9menant pour faire renaitre un terroir sans renier les d\u00e9tails qui le font autre (les vins d\u2019ici \u00e9taient vendus comme vin de bistrot, sans r\u00e9v\u00e9ler leur potentiel). La machine Savages impressionne certes, mais la fragilit\u00e9 de Jehnny donne chair \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble, usant de la panoplie des techniques live\u00a0avec l\u2019aisance de l\u2019actrice (qu\u2019elle est par ailleurs). Sa voix qui te regarde et ses yeux qui te parlent, justes et p\u00e9n\u00e9trants. Le pied sur les retours pour haranguer, les doigts qui font des vaguelettes au-dessus du public pour communier, debout sur un ampli pour illuminer, \u00e0 terre pour agoniser\u00a0: \u00e0 coup s\u00fbr la palette \u00e9motive y passe et tous succombent jusqu\u2019au final port\u00e9 haut par une guitare toujours plus ample et rugueuse, une rythmique obsessive et le chant qui perce une derni\u00e8re illusion dans un tunnel de bruit. Son obsession du contr\u00f4le (fa\u00e7on de parler, c\u2019est pas la gestapo non plus) s\u2019applique aussi au public\u00a0: \u00e9vitez les iPhone et les prises de vues p\u00e9nibles et tue-l\u2019amour. Vrai groupe de sc\u00e8ne avec besoin d\u2019intimit\u00e9\u00a0: <i>\u00ab\u00a0lets make each evening special<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb. Ce qui pourrait paraitre pr\u00e9tentieux devient juste une mani\u00e8re de consid\u00e9rer la musique live et d\u2019\u00e9lever son exigence de rendu. Tout en r\u00e9glant habilement le dilemme des rockeurs\u00a0: jouer les saltimbanques sympathiques, les bouffons de la corde sensible ou les inaccessibles divas\u00a0? Jouer simplement et tr\u00e8s s\u00e9rieusement la musique qu\u2019on a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de jouer. Performance habit\u00e9e et de plus en plus immersive, l\u2019exigence des filles est palpable lorsque je les croise avant le live concentr\u00e9es mentalement et physiquement (\u00ab\u00a0<i>ah salut, d\u00e9guster du vin cool, mais l\u00e0 je m\u2019\u00e9chauffe<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb me dis la batteuse concentr\u00e9e sur des pad \u00e9lectroniques, dans une ambiance studieuse d\u2019avant performance). L\u2019envie de donner quelque chose de fort a pour miroir la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de recevoir dans de bonnes conditions. Et Ramonteu ne d\u00e9nigrera pas cette obligation de d\u00e9guster des vins dans les conditions optimales, ce passionn\u00e9 expansif qui te tire \u00e0 lui pour faire vivre ces vins, il suffit de le croiser en salon pour voir s\u2019agglutiner les curieux autour du personnage. Extr\u00eamement concentr\u00e9es, rituelles, carr\u00e9ment straight pour certaines (\u00ab\u00a0<i>c\u2019est cool cette id\u00e9e mais je ne bois pas<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb OK Larbor tu crains, t\u2019as encore du chemin \u00e0 faire pour pr\u00e9parer tes interviews)\u00a0: pour aller tout droit encore faut-il avoir un r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel. Une musique \u00ab\u00a0<i>straight to the point<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb, un vin tranchant, tout en verticale\u00a0: les deux artistes foncent vers un point que l\u2019on imagine connu d\u2019eux seuls. Et on a envie de les suivre sur-le-champ pour prendre la juste dimension des r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiels en question.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kebq-cENNn0\" width=\"650\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lorsque j\u2019ai visit\u00e9 le domaine, l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi estivale s\u2019est termin\u00e9 par un orage d\u00e9chirant les flancs des montagnes, lorsque les substances encore vives du chant des vignes trainaient dans mes papilles. I know very well that you hide your profound melancholy behind that edgy boy attitude. And then you sink. You hate yourself. You hate everything you\u2019re surrounded by, like a buddhist monk in a McDonald\u2019s. Walking is too slow, scooters are ridiculous and cars are just hideous. I retract myself like a gastropod in order not to touch the horrors surrounding me like an imam at a charcuterie. And then, I sink, worn out by my own style. A lifestyle more centrist than a pack of chipsters, extremely cautious about my choices, under the austere scrutiny of purists, having their eye on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leblogfinance.com\/files\/2012\/07\/cac-130112.png\" target=\"_blank\">greater evil<\/a>. The dubbiest artist you listen to is Haxan Cloax. Asocial in search of LIKES like a Romani at a stop light, suspicious of your own desires. Self-distrust of any easy source of pleasure, you sob but don\u2019t let anything show. And now, what am I going to tell you about, little schizo? An easy\u00a0 drink and a fashionista band? Self hatred is so delicious.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What a smart introduction to exonerate myself from talking about a hyped band and a domain at its top mediatic exposure &#8211; all of this without caring to create a darkmail address. But my conscience is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MiZL1nWZDu8\" target=\"_blank\">zen<\/a> and I intend to enjoy life. Two years ago, I had visited the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jurancon-cauhape.com\/venir-au-domaine\/venir-au-domaine-cauhape.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cauhap\u00e9<\/a> domain, on a heavy afternoon of august. In the depths of Juran\u00e7on, a difficult location to establish (and nope, it\u2019s not the \u2018cross-country skiing\u2019 Jura, nor the \u2018whiskey\u2019 Jura but the B\u00e9arn), lying between the mountains and the ocean, Pyrenees foothills landscape where vines integrate within the valleys in the forest, corn fields and cattle breeding farms. An authentic French region with great white mansions and paved courtyards; a peaceful and seducing gourmet region (ducks and other creatures are also part of the ambience) where the false sense of tranquility may suffer casualties from the summits. So, a visit around Cauhap\u00e9: very trendy, a vineyard tight as a drum, impeccable and professional hosting, flawless installation. Wines are as mastered. I\u2019m particularly fond of the dry ones: powerful nose, full of sharp baroque exotism with a vivacious palate; a bit edgy and full of tonicity. I&rsquo;ve been searching for a long time a band to match with such a surprising South-West treasure, full of \u2018savoir-faire\u2019 and finesse. Considering the genre of rock that I usually listen to, I obviously struggled to find an associate for this impeccable and flawless domain. Until the day I stumbled into the Savages live and backstage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/wineandnoise.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_0694-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0694\" width=\"940\" height=\"940\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Attention to detail,<br \/>\nobsession with control<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Accessing the domain through a gigantic but odd entrance, we can\u00a0immediately sense a strict monitoring of the whole process, from the vines to the tanks, to a very cautious bottling. Henri Ramonteu makes no secret about it: \u201c<em>the hand of man is omnipresent in the vine, detail makes perfection<\/em>\u201d. Attention to detail, obsession with control: from the first song, Savages sets an uncompromising scene, rigorist and mastered. Athletic bass-drums section (I\u2019ve been told that the drummer comes from the drum&amp;bass scene &#8211; no less), the guitar lets a dangerous tension hanging and a voice fully carried by <a href=\"http:\/\/jehnnybeth.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jehnny Beth<\/a>, outfitted to minimum detail, captivating with her graceful rage (or the other way around) and her imposing delicacy. Extreme precision of placement, playing and interpretation. Punks on high heels, they orchestrate a dark ballet of slamdancing, caressing death and finitude. A tight balance between the roundness of the drums (yep, with a large snare reverb, and getting away with it) and the guitar\/voice\u2019s cold fury is as fascinating as the nose\/palate contrast of the Juran\u00e7on Geyser. And definitely as persuasive. And then, the persistent work slowly settles, a violent urge to seize and show &#8211; no matter what &#8211; an indestructible desire \u2013 whatever the object is, as long the pushing reaches far &#8211; which is, I believe, the essence of post-punk. A way of saying \u00ab\u00a0no, nothing at all \/ No, I give up nothing\u201d. And the four girls on stage surely don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Of difference between<br \/>\nnuance and patchwork<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cauhap\u00e9 vines take advantage from a climate and a terroir influenced by multiple factors : mild winds from the ocean and cold ones from the mountains, with mild late seasons but frosty winters, with foothills that provoke different expositions to the sun and altitude. Ramonteau continues with this logic when he attacks the assembling of the variety of vintage vines, enhancing its own characteristics while keeping both balanced (small: aromatic and nervous; big: obviously wider and gourmet), by bringing back old traditions (the unforgettable Courbu, Camaralet and Lauzet). He assembles these different nuances, searching for an aromatic combination to be able to express without being bold and putting it all out. All these to preserve a very particular style attached to the region. Subtle difference between nuance and patchwork that implies knowing where to stop. Savages are in the search for \u201ca live music with enough nuance to generate a scale of emotions\u201d. And knowing where to stop when it comes to using references (the Siouxie and Banshees\u2019 experiment ceremonial), gimmicks (industrial screeches, cold wave breaks), and ropes (from the Joy Division revival to the subtle mention of the groups starting with \u201cBlack\u2026\u201d). All of which proves determination and control. To transform weakness in the force to make a statement, as if sole words could suffice to exist, assuming without having the choice, bringing back the details that give sense beyond \u201cthe 80\u2019s revival\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To draw a straight line you need a referential<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Because this statement, both contemporary (economical crisis) and timeless (sentimental crisis), brings back the details that count: urge, combat and style. As Ramonteau loves to say, \u201cit is more difficult to seduce than to impress\u201d, as he struggles to make a terroir rise again without silencing what makes it different (wines from this region were once sold as bistrot wines, without revealing any potential). The Savages machine certainly is impressing, but Jehnny\u2019s fragility gives flesh and blood to the whole, using all of live techniques with the ease of an actress (that she happens to be). Her voice looks at you and her eyes talk to you, precise and penetrating. What could be considered as pretentious becomes just a way to consider live music and to raise your expectations, and settle the rocker\u2019s dilemma: act like a friendly saltimbanque, a sensitive clown or an inaccessible diva? Just play the music you decided to play as simply and seriously as possible. As far as delivering living performances that get more immersive as it goes, you can feel the girls\u2019 exigency when I meet them before the concert and they\u2019re physically and mentally concentrated (\u201chey, hello! Try out some wine? Pretty cool but now I\u2019m warming up you see?\u201d says the drummer focusing on her electronic pads, in an almost \u2018student ritual\u2019 ambience before performing). The urge to offer something strong mirrors the need of hosting under the best conditions. And it is not Ramonteau that will deny this obligation to taste the wine under optimal conditions, being an expansive passionate character that attracts you to make you experience these wines. Just by observing him at a wine expo and admiring how all curious people end up around him and his persona. Extremely concentrated, ritualistic, even definitely straight for some of them (\u201cit\u2019s a cool idea but I don\u2019t drink\u201d OK Larbor, you suck.
